Microminimal, 2023, 150 x 100 x 3 cm, transparent Perspex, microplastics
The paintings entitled Microminimal thematize minimalism, but they try to work subversively with its usual problematic formalist elegance or spiritual aesthetic. The paintings are made of transparent Perspex (Plexiglas). They have the form of an almost hermetically sealed double glazing (a kind of showcase) with a small amount of fine dust from microplastics inside. Those microplastics, although we are literally surrounded by them, are not visible. They are not ecological and represent a creeping devastation that can damage organisms and upset the balance of ecosystems. Without the artist’s contribution, this synthetic micro dust spontaneously adheres to the Forex surface due to static electricity, creating an ethereal nebula reminiscent of Václav Boštík’s contemplative paintings. However, their stillness can have rather lethargic, soporific parameters when we do not want to see what we are actually looking at and admit its existence.
