Grape Lily (Vine), 2016, mixed media, height 9 m
Lily of the Common Grape is a plant species created on the basis of decorative paintings of the Galerie Rudolfinum. The author of this decoration is the Viennese painter of Italian origin, Pietro Isella. The models of his ornamental painting included Classical Antiquity and Renaissance grotesque motifs, garlands, mascarons and amoretti.
The Lily of the Common Grape came into being based on the analysis of these floral fantasies. Its origin was consulted with Mr. Ladislav Pavlata, Director of the Botanical Garden of the Faculty of Natural Sciences. The final expertise came to the conclusion that it was modeled after several plant species such as pumpkin blossoms, lily flower, lily fruit, as well as vines and fern leaves. On the basis of these findings, a drawing imitating the style of scientific drawings from the 19th century has been created, which tried to finalize with the greatest possible authenticity the appearance of the Lily of the Common Grape.

According to this pattern, the most faithful imitation of this plant has been subsequently made by a professional florist. The flowering liana-like plant was installed in the Galerie Rudolfinum so that it clung to the wall towards the decorations lining the ceiling.
This is a study of the Grape Lily (Vine), found in the Congo rainforest. This exhibition features a Rudolphine drawing captured in the spirit of the 19th century.
