Print, 1991, 1600 × 1600 cm, acrylic on paper
In 1991, I tried to realize the largest graphic printing in the world. On the one hand, I was interested in the inappropriateness of thinking about a record within the world of contemporary art, and on the other hand, the theme of size in contrast to the intimate world of graphic techniques. The attention to detail was replaced by landart immensity.
I made the print in the environment of the “moon” landscape of the Predlice surface mine, instead of a satin machine I used a large Russian-made excavator.
A large excavator excavated a 2.5 meter deep trench. It stepped over him with its “paw”, the diameter of which was 16 meters. I painted the lower part of the paw with printing ink. From where the machine walked over the ditch, a cardboard with dimensions corresponding to the size of the paw was subsequently spread. After the bottom of the base was painted, the machine did the printing.
